It takes quite the package to book the Queen's Ballroom for a wedding and the party is in full swing at this unusual wedding. A marriage of witches with one half of the couple in sugary-pink and the other in a vivid emerald green with a pointed hat. The newly wedded look like something out of a story book, along with their guests who have been encouraged to join the theme in a mix of fairytale creatures and well, more witches. The number of pointy hats in the room alone...
Artemisia has been engaged to play piano music when a slow song or ambiance is required, but the swap to a DJ after dinner leaves the pianist free to grab a drink and a slice of cake. She lingers by the wall, the mural of dancing creatures behind her, as she takes a sip of the champagne that she was handed. She's been dressed for the theme too in the themepark's vast assortment of costumes, her gown a sparkly pale blue with a few flowers pinned in her blonde hair. As the couple spins around the floor, she can't help but smile watching them.
As far as weddings go this is one of the more unusual ones that Lee has had to work. To be fair they have only been working her since November and prior to this they didn't do weddings, and they typically don't here unless catering needs their expertise, in this case to make sure the vegan dishes that were part of the dinner were in fact vegan. Catering is pretty good at that, but that is Lee's thing, though they aren't vegan themselves.
With dinner over Lee is on their way out, but wants to check out the DJ first and see what the music vibe is, and maybe pre-game before hitting the nightclub. As they skirt the periphery of the ballroom they encounter Arte as she holds up the wall. "Oh, hey." they grin at her, checking out the gown. They are still in their chefs garb, but has a bag over their shoulder which probably has a change of clothing. "That gown is very Glenda."
"Thank you." Artemisia flashes Lee a bright smile, saluting them with a lift of her champagne glass. "It's from costume. Not mine. Alas." She twirls the skirts slightly, affecting a little spin for full demonstration. "Did you get any of the cake? It's like - really good."
"Still a good choice, I am guessing you picked it out from what was available." Lee queries, though doesn't make it a direct question. "With all the princesses we have around here, there was probably a lot to choose from."
The question of cake has Lee looking where the cut up cake sits, it's wedges and squares lined up on little plates in neat rows. "I haven't, no. I know they bakers were still putting the final touches on it in the kitchen just minutes before it was brought out." the give a laugh "Anyone that got to close were given looks."
"I did. I asked what the wedding colors were and picked something complimentary, without clashing with either of the brides," Artemisia admits, sliding a hand along the embroidery of her skirts. The princess look suits her. She laughs. "We do have a lot of Princesses. There was this gorgeous amethyst gown but it was more your height than mine." She sighs, the looks at Lee. "If you can steal it for a spin, you should."
Carefully bending down, Artemisia picks up the piece of cake that she has from where it sits on one of the decorative side tables. "You wanna try?" She offers to Lee. It's a beautiful cake, a pale rose color with a white topper and green elements of decoration like large medallions. "It tastes like strawberry and champagne, honestly - I don't know how they did it."
"The brides are stunning. Those outfits couldn't have been cheap either." if the brides can afford an extravagant wedding at the Queen's Castle, on theme outfits are nothing. "I wonder if they wore those during the ceremony or is that just the reception outfits?" They may never know, Lee has been in the kitchen all day helping prep the dinner for this crowd. And a crowd it is. "I do look good in purple." they aside to the gown comment.
Lee looks at the slice of cake as Arte holds it out. "If you are offering." they take the plate and takes a small bite of the cake, nodding at the berry sweet flavor "I would say it's magic, but it's most likely the chantilly cream frosting." they hand the plate back over "I will be needing to get my own piece of that."
"Well, you only get married once." Artemisia pauses before adding, "At least in theory." She smiles at the couple. "They look happy though. So I hope this is their happily ever after and yes. They had trains for the ceremony, but removed those so they could dance." They are draped over the couples chairs. "I got to play the accompaniment for their moment down the aisle." She beams up at Lee. "It was so lovely. I was glad my mascara was waterproof."
"Yup!" She is offering. Still, Artemisia is happy to take back her slice of take when Lee passes it back. She takes a bite and sighs. "I don't know what that is but it sounds like a type of lace."
That gets another laugh from Lee. "There is a millennia of history that says otherwise, but I don't think anyone goes into marriage thinking they are going to do it more than once." They follow Arte's gaze toward where the couple is dancing together. "Please tell me their vows were thematic." They have no idea how vows could be, but it should be possible, something about defying gravity together would do it. "What was the song?"
"I think it is a type of lace." they nod toward the dessert table, suggesting that Arte go with them to grab a piece of cake "And a type of frosting. It's made from whipped cream and powdered sugar, along with whatever flavors you want in it. Some people also add cream cheese to make it more stable." Things Arte didn't need to know, but Lee is a chef, who was raised in a bakery, so is going to share what they know.
"I know." Artemisia crinkles her nose, she lets out a sigh. "You can hope though. Yeah? That people get their happily ever after." She takes another bite of cake and bops her head in a nod. "They were. The green one promised to take the pink one to the highest heights and the pink one promised to bring out the light in the darkness." Romantic. "For Good. From the musical Wicked."
Artemisia nods agreeably, managing to hold onto her champagne and cake to accompany Lee in collecting their piece of cake. "Sounds fancy."
Lee shrugs before giving clarification for their vague gesture "Other people, sure. I'm pretty sure that I will need to find my happy ever after by myself." statistically the odds are against them, but they do seem happy with the life they have so far. "I would not have booed if Wicked had ended that way." but sadly it didn't, though that is what fanfic is for!
They peruse the varies slices of cake, and decide on one with a bit of strawberry on the top. "I am going to be in so much trouble when I get home. Spicy," their snugglebunny, "is going to smell the cake and try to bite me."
"We all need to find it for ourselves," Artemisia agrees of happily ever afters. "A partner is nice, but you can't put all your joy on someone else." She giggles at the comment on Wicked. "Oh my gosh. Same."
"Fluff is going to be the same way." She grins. "I keep a bag of marshmallows for just that emergency."
"And there are certainly worse places to be while trying to find it." Lee says as they make a vague gesture with their fork to refer to the park as a whole. "Loads of people come through on a daily basis... I really should get out of the kitchen more to experience it." They get out of the kitchen plenty, but not to hunt down a partner specifically. They aren't desperate.
"I am going to have to make a stop someplace on the way home to get some appeasing sweet for them. Spicy really likes taffy, though I doubt one of the candy shops on the Midway will be open that late."
"Yeah." Artemisia watches the dances with a half smile, extended beyond the point of Lee's fork. "Well. Let me know if you ever need a wingwoman or just company," she offers with a cheerful smile. "I like playing tourist."
"Appease the wee beastie." She grins and then giggles. "Doesn't Spicy get their mouth gummed up with taffy or do you give them little pieces?" Arte's eyes dance pink. "If you need to get going, I won't keep you," she offers. "I'm really just still here because I was taking a moment to make sure they didn't need me."
"I was planning on going to the nightclub over at the resort after this, don't necessarily need a wingwoman but wouldn't mind the company." they give another of their silvery laughs "Never thought of trying to play as a tourist." they gesture to their white hair, still up in is regulation braided bun "With this I don't think I would be able to pull it off."
"Little pieces. Though I'm not sure they even chew. Doesn't the marshmallow cause the same problem?" both can be sticky under the right circumstances. "I'm in no rush, and there is dancing here, and quite a few cute guests."
"Ooh." Artemisia wiggles excitedly. "I'd have to get something to wear, but that sounds like fun." Her eyes flicker with pink hued emotion as she chews on her bottom lip. "Most people don't notice or mark it up as aesthetic," she says. "It's fun to do."
"Mini marshmallows," Arte answers on the problem of chewing.
"Maybe I should invest in some.wigs." Lee ponders a loud. "Or just temporary, do it yourself hair color. I am not going to spend the money on a professional job when it would just go back to white the next morning."
Lee finishes their slice of cake and quickly sets the plate down grinnig "Or...hear me out, we go to costume, and I get that amethyst gown and we go to the nightclub as pretty, pretty princesses." It aounds like a solid plan to them, and even if that isn't the plan, well nightclub here they come.
