As far as the audience knows, the first production of The Midnight Wish goes off without a hitch! The after-party featuring hot cocoa and cookies is a success too, and a few people even win some prizes.

No matter the amount of backstage disasters that may or may not be attributable to it being Friday the 13th, the return of The Midnight Wish is a success. The audience, a mix of guests and park employees, had burst out in enthusiastic applause at the conclusion of the final song, and a small selection of the attending crowd now has VIP access to the release party held after in the castle's ballroom. Cast (and crew!) mill with the lucky guests, the former in their various stage costumes while the latter all sport specially-made t-shirts labeling them as crew for the production.
The story of the musical had been fairly simple, revolving around a young girl and amateur detective (of course played by a fully adult actress) who was conscripted to help solve the mystery of whose wish froze time as the clock struck midnight on Christmas Eve. Peppy songs had been thread throughout the narrative, and multiple dance numbers had the entire stage moving with frenetic energy. Despite what must have been an exhausting couple of hours, the performers all seem extra chipper as they come out into the ballroom.
Of the cast mingling about, there are:
There are waitstaff roving around with trays of hot cocoa, warm milk (and non-dairy alternatives) and plenty of cheerfully decorated cookies, a well-tended buffet of other little snackies, and the promise of gifts and giveaways as the night progresses. The walls are done up with fresh fir garlands adorned with glitzy baubles that make the entire ballroom smell like a midnight forest, and there are several Christmas trees scattered around the room that have been decorated to match various scenes from the play, like the magical Wishing Well or Santa's Toyshop.
Kids and adults alike have the opportunity to make their own versions of the ornaments on the tree, take pictures with some of the set pieces from the play, or decorate gingerbread Blitzens with icing, candies, and sprinkles.
As the event kicks off, Santa Claus comes up onto a stage assembled for the night's event and approaches the mic, opening it with a hearty, "Ho ho ho!" His outfit is rustic, relying on old country myths and legends about Sinterklaas and Saint Nicholas rather than more modern interpretations of the man, and he has a twinkle in his eye as he sets his hands on his round stomach. He is a very good Santa Claus, all told. "My friends! Thank you all for coming and helping us solve the mystery of The Midnight Wish! We're so glad you're here celebrating with us tonight. Please, enjoy the refreshments from my elf friends in the kitchens, and hold onto your ticket. You'll all be getting a special gift before you leave, but I have a few things in store for some very special guests tonight!"
With a wink, he bows to the assembled crowd and then departs the stage, as the backing band begins playing a rendition of one of the play's musical motifs. The murmur of the crowd returns, and the party officially begins.
Callie had to briefly leave and get dressed before she attended the party because she was in her grimy gear that she was wearing for backstage work. It doesn't take long for her to change and come back and celebrate the success of the production. She's wearing a soft pair of black corduroy trousers and a long, white button-down linen blouse. Her hair is pulled up high on her head, and she's managed to spatter some makeup on her features.
She makes her way in, grabs herself some hot cocoa, and chats with folks here and there, her attitude firmly in the "I am an employee, and I need to behave" category.
There will be no Warner shenanigans present this evening, or she'll smack her brothers and sisters silly -- you know, later, in private.
"WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Wash lifts his arms up as he bursts into the room.
After a quick shower and change of clothes (because being behind the scenes is also taxing) the director (who took over mid-show, thank you very much) is in a pair of jeans, sneakers, a Ramones t-shirt, and a leather jacket. He's got an assortment of bracelets, necklaces and rings, and he's wearing those damn red sunglasses.
"SUCCESS!"
As the band picks back up with the music and people start chatting and mingling with one another, Avery ventures over to some of the set decorations to take a closer look at them and the detailed work that went into them. Pulling her phone out and lifting it high she starts to take some selfies with the set props. Throwing out a peace sign in one, making a weird face with her lips in different directions, just having some good ole fun taking pictures over there.
Unsure of what one wore to a play that turned into a VIP sectioned party she'd pulled out some black leather pants and paired them with a pink weather that was tattered looking but felt like heaven. Wavy curls left her looking fancier than it normally was.
Having already arrived, Ari is in a nice pair of khakis and his crew t-shirt, nursing a mug of hot cocoa whilst hanging out somewhat separated from the crowd, near the back wall to the side of the stage. Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, as he walks by, laughs and gives him a friendly pat on the shoulder, two big thump thumps that has Ari swaying slightly on his feet.
And then Santa's off to interact with the crowd, so the youngest Warner is left on his lonesome. Which is probably what he was aiming for anyway, after all the behind-the-scenes chaos!
Theo is loitering and is taking it all in. Not feeling the need to mingle just yet as his hazel gaze follows the crowd and the different conversations that are going on around him.
He's in a red sweater, black jeans and black boots. He turns to help himself to one of the trays being passed around. One of his hands is holding a cup of hot chocolate.
He spies Ari and meanders over there giving a up nod in greeting, "Hey, great job tonight. It was entertaining!" He compliments. "Places like this can be a bit overwhelming." Grinning at Ari and then facing the crowd in general as he sips his cocoa.
Callie stares at Wash, sighing softly. She shakes her head and quietly makes her way over to Ari, nodding a hello to Theo. "This was beautiful." She murmurs to Ari, leaning in to give him a brief smooch on the cheek.
"The production went smoothly, didn't it?" She offers her hand to Theo. "Evening. Have we met?" She's not great at remembering faces if they're not related to her.
It's a play, and a party! Wesley wasn't involved in the play (although someone did try to talk him into putting on a snowman suit and joining, but he managed to duck that, he wears a bulky suit often enough thank-you-very-much) but he was in the audience, and now he's striding into the party dressed to impress. Well, someone is probably impressed anyway. He's wearing a very shiny shirt and tight black pants, and as the performers wander into the ballroom he brings his hands up in applause, cheering out, "Great job, everyone! Great work saving Christmas. Again. Man, does anything need saving more than Christmas? It's worse than Princess Peach." Okay, so that last part isn't shouted at least, more a quiet musing to himself.
Then, he spots cocoa. Oh, hell yeah. Over he goes.
Wash, unwilling to allow his siblings to be lonely, rushes uip behind Ari and wraps his arms around his little brother's waist, lifting him up and bouncing him a few times. "WE DID IT WE DID IT." You'd think they'd never run a production before, but then again, everyone who knows him should be used to the Post Production Wash Adrenaline, or the PPDubA, as it is called among the knowledgeable.
Wash sets his brother down and then smooches Callie's cheek, fingergunning Theo, and then taking a few steps back before spinning on his heels and coming to a skidding stop before running into Avery. "Oops, sorry! Hey, have you seen another version of me around? Less handsome, but just as nice?"
Unlike the other Warners, Bam does not take the time to change. Because rather than crawling around and working technical stuff, his role during the show was mostly to sit in the back, remind people if they start to forget their blocking or moves, or otherwise watch the scenes he choreographed playing out. He slips out from the back wearing his long black theatre pants and a black turtleneck, a big smile on his face. He does a quick little trot and spin reminiscent of the entrance of Jack Frost during his intro dance number, and then gives high fives to each of the dancers that he passes. "Great job, you killed it!"
Wash is the next recipient, as he sidles up to his brother, the director. "Fantastic work, bro. I've already heard people saying the loved the direction you took this year." He claps him on the shoulder, and then slips by to head over towards Ari. He lifts a hand to offer a fist bump to the youngest Warner. "They're loving us, bro, and the way you set the stage..." He slips an arm around his brother's shoulder, and waves with his other hand. "Immersive," he says, as if indicating the grand canyon. "Really, outdid yourself."
And then he heads over towards his older sister. He comes up behind her as well and pokes up on his tip toes to press a kiss down on the top of her head. "The family did great. The house was rocking."
Then he lowers his face. "Sorry again about the parade, but I promise you, uh, mom would have been proud of me. Honest."
He looks over towards where Wash has paused a few feet away, and nudges Callie. "Hey, let's go perform a rescue. It'll help with the story."
His destination, it seems, is to usher Callie over towards where Wash and Avery are chatting.
Callie is led in a direction with Bam, toward where Wash and Avery are chatting. Joy. The brother that she wants to smack upside the head the hardest. Well, Bam is taller, maybe she can talk him into it. Doubtful.
She sets her raptor gaze on Wash before she turns to smile at Avery. "Evening." She sips at her hot chocolate. Then she remembers something Bam had said, and leans in to quietly speak. "The parade will live, thanks to Ari, our float will be fantastic."
She didn't get a chance to say bye to Ari, but she'll see him while doing the rounds again -- likely soon.
When Callie offers a hand towards Theo he moves to shake it. A smile to his lips. "In passing. I'm the performer for Storyteller's Corner." If she is also working at Lamplight Amphitheater with the rest of her family that is where she would have seen Theo.
When Wash finger guns in his direction he does the same action and laughs.
His eyes go big when he takes notice in how Ari is greeted by his family members. More in humor than anything else.
He tells Bam, "Hey, liked your routine."
When he realizes that Wash was the director he calls in that direction before he moves to Avery. "It was an excellent show!"
The young actress who plays Clara is currently sitting in a kneel at one of the low tables where the kids (mostly kids, at least) are doing crafts. She's talking animatedly as she helps one young boy put his ornament together, the flaps of her detective hat -- you all know the one -- flying as she looks this way and that. Nearby, Jack Frost is gently teasing a group of older children, who are happily joking back with him. The other performers are moving through the crowd, making it obvious this is less a party for them as it is for the guests.
But even though they're still on the job, so to speak, they all seem to be having a good time. Or is that just acting? It's always so hard to tell.
As Avery poses with the set pieces, Mrs. Claus (Noel to her friends) approaches and smooths down her apron, smiling as she watches. "Is this a selfie kind of night or would you like some help taking pictures, dear?" she asks, warm laughter in her voice. When Wash nearly falls into Avery, Mrs. Claus laughs even more, and says, "Or maybe this young gentleman can assist, I'm sure he is much more capable with technology than I am."
Speaking of photos: over by the hot cocoa dispensary, Blitzen is currently posing with a kid hugging him around the neck. The head performer (AKA the one not controlling the butt) is also the voice, so he calls out, "Try the peppermint one, it's my favorite!" to Wesley as he approaches to get his own hot cocoa on.
"Oh, that's so kind of you... But that's ok. I just wanted a couple to remember the night." Avery tells Mrs Claus, "These should be just fine."
The ball-o-energy that is a hyped-up on life and a great show in the form of Wash skids to a halt in front of her. Avery starts to laugh at his question, her phone lowering back to her side and slipping into the back pocket of her pants.
"No, I can't say I have." Looking around as if that person would magically appear before them if they both looked for the face that looks like him. "You're the director, right?" Tucking some hair behind her ear. "This show was great! You did a great job."
Avery shifts her attention to Callie and then Bam as they both approach and join "Hi," shifting her eyes between Callie and Bam again before keeping them on Callie, offering a hand to her, "I'm Avery."
"Thanks," Ari says, brightening slightly at Theo's compliment. What comes after gets an immediate, almost too eager nod, and then Ari's laughing into his hot cocoa. "Uh, yeah."
Thankfully he's already downed most of his mug, because after Callie kisses his cheek he's being hefted in the air by Wash. The noise that comes out of him is downright embarrasing, but he manages not to slosh his drink by some kind of Christmas miracle. Once he's back on solid ground, he laughs again, a little tremuously. "We sure did," he agrees.
And then he turns back to Theo. "Thanks for coming out. I'm glad they gave employees a chance to see it too. If what I heard is right, they were pretty much constantly sold out last year."
Trace had to run up to the office after the play for a brief bit but now has returned for the party. He's got his name tag and badge on that marks him as one of the employees but his clothing are the dressed-down sort of someone who works back stage -- black trousers, a dark blue sweater over a pressed white shirt. He makes his way in and acquires a cup of cocoa from a passing tray before wandering through the set pieces to take them in.
He smiles a lifts his cup of cocoa in salute to Ari. "Congratulations. The show was really well done," he says and then offers a smile to Avery and Wash as well, over by the set pieces.
Some people have to take a little extra time to navigate around what is quoted as 'a jungle of belly buttons and butts'. The plus side is your seat is rarely bad if you have to bring your own -- the negative side is that you kind of have to wait for crowds to clear out a bit, and then meander a little to the side wide-eyed at everyone, nervously try to convince oneself that yes, being social is well and good, and then at the very end of it seeing your friend hefted up in a questionably safe for work manner.
But roll up Nasrin does to the outside of the group, wearing workout gloves to protect her hands and a cheery blue scarf with a snowflake pattern.
"Nice to meet you, Avery. I'm California." Callie points toward Wash. "This is Washington." She tilts her head toward Bam. "And this is Alabama." She quirks a grin before she adds. "If either of them bothers you, let me know, and I'll drag them off by the ear."
That's a promise, mind you.
She sips at her hot chocolate.
"I'm not a photographer, but I do have a good eye," Wash admits to Mrs. Claus and Avery. He flashes Avery a smile. "I am, yeah. I picked it up mid-production, though, so I can't take all the credit for some of the choices, but it came out really well. I'm --" He's going to offer his hand and then Callie and Bam are there and he's being introduced by his older sister and that's embarrassing.
"Callie, we have talked about this, we have to ease people into the full names." They have not talked about it, he's just mad he didn't get to do it.
At the recommendation of the reindeer - who, let's been honest, is probably someone Wesley knows from his own work at the park if they're operating a character like that, even if he can't tell who under that getup - an approving thumbs-up is offered, and then he's acquiring said peppermint cocoa.
Said drink acquired, he spots Avery-- and heads in that direction, just in time to hear some names. "Are we in Zombieland suddenly?" He's grinning when he says it, eyebrows raising a bit.
"Listen, us Warners have to ease in a lot, but you know, the full games help folks understand why we're a full set of crazies." Bam flashes a grin to his younger bro, and casts a brief glance around as well to see if Reggie is around somewhere.
Then he nods sagely towards Callie, before looking to Avery. "Yes, ma'am, you should tell my sister Callie about everything I've done to you so she can punish me accordingly. Sometimes that is her favorite thing." A mischievous grin crosses his lips as he lingers at Callie's side, glancing sidelong over at Wash, before looking back to Avery.
"I always tell him that he has a great vision, and he certainly has way more patience than I do." Bam jerks his thumb towards Wash. "Like, I don't have to deal with people speaking anything, so I can kind of do my job with airbuds in an pretend that no one is talking to me. He has to, you know, hear people and such."
A wink is aimed at Ari from Theo. He gets it. He's just people watching as he figures out how to get himself involved in a group. But at the same time he is content to do just that. People watch and figure out what is going on here. His attention back to Ari, "Oh yeah, I missed it last year. Glad I could make it this year."
"You're modest too," Avery tells Wash when he doesn't take all the credit for himself, "I know most of these are a group effort and everything, but someone has to look to someone to make the hard decisions right? That usually falls on the director."
Spotting the smiling face of Trace she returns it and offers him a little wave, "Hey!"
One by one the formal names of states are mentioned in reference to the people that now stood around her. Looking from Callie to Wash and then to Bam as they are all introduced. "It's nice to meet you." her eyes squint at Bam and she tilts her head, "Have we met?" she asks him.
Wesley slips in at her side and she smiles, "Hey, Puff. Good to see you." Laughing at his mention of Zombieland.
Wash gives Avery a humble shrug with a little appreciative tilt of his head.
"Actually, the names in Zombieland are inspired on us. One of our dads was a friend of Reese and Wernick back then," Wash tells Wesley with a grin. "Callie, Wash, Bam." He points, indicating each nickname. "Arizona's over there," he adds, pointing at Ari.
Oh dear. Callie just smiles as Wash drops that bit of information, and she nods at Avery. Then when Wesley makes his way over to the group, she offers a friendly wave. "Nice to meet you as well." His name doesn't smack her in the face, but it will get mentioned at some point. "Our parents .. they had some ideas."
She pats Bam on the shoulder and smiles winningly at him.
She glances down at her empty cup of hot chocolate and sighs. "Need a refill, and probably some of those cookies. Excuse me briefly."
"Oh, so that movie you've seen?" Wesley teases Avery as he stops near the conversation, and then Wash is dropping Deep Name Lore (tm) and he looks suitably impressed - a grin crossing his expression, head bobbing a few times, "That's pretty metal, not gonna lie. I'm Wes-- and hey, could have been worse ideas."
To Callie, teasingly, "At least you weren't Moon Unit and Dweezle like Zappa's kids."
The cocoa salute from Trace has Ari lifting his own mug, and it's really only then that he notices how empty it is. He'll have to do something about that shortly. "Thank you," he calls out to the compliment, and then a fortuitous parting of the crowd has him spotting Nasrin.
He smiles at Theo. "A friend of mine that I invited just arrived, um, if you'd like to meet her?" Maybe he senses a like-minded individual in Theo, in the sense of someone who is maybe more up to people-watching than actually interacting, so he adds, "No pressure." Either way, if Theo comes or not, he'll head over to greet Nasrin with a bright "Hello!" that surprises him with how not-forced it feels. New friends, how exciting!
"The hot cocoa is really good," he enthuses, and gestures towards where they've got the various different flavors on tap. "I've tried the caramel and the peppermint so far..." A shiver runs down his spine as someone nearby uses his full government name, but he only peers wide-eyed in Wash's direction before he turns back.
"Yeah, but good ideas," counters Bam. He watches as the introductions continue, and then Callie moves to slip away to get some hot chocolate. He ponders for a moment, and then looks over at Avery, and then back to Callie.
"Speaking of good ideas..." Bam slips away from Callie's side and sidles up to Avery's. "Avery is a kickass player of Diablo. We should have her come and join us for a game night sometime."
If you expected the Stage Manager of The Midnight Wish to be here any earlier than Past Fashionably Late, then you have way more faith in Oregon than he has in himself. The stress of the show has finally subsided, showers have been had and more casual and calm attire has been chosen; a black t-shirt with the 'Welcome to Oregon' sign printed on it underneath a purple button down, some pressed dark denim and classic black All-Stars. He's rocking some similar accessories and jewelry to the other person in here that looks just like him.
His arrival is quiet and to himself, dodging the need to get any drinks because he's brought his own bottle of water. The same bottle of water that he used to keep his stress levels down during the show. It takes Reggie a little bit to finish coming down from the stressful high of making sure things happened correctly tonight and he takes up residence with a lean against the wall near one of the corners so that he can do the people watching thing.
Or, in actuality, do the 'the lighting cue in the second act could've been a two seconds quicker so next show make sure to check on that. also, maybe check the bulbs because it seemed a little dim for the moment, a higher wattage may be necessary so cycle through a few options and filters to find the right combination. also, try some different tape for the spike marks next show -- tonight's was a little thick.'
Yeah, he's going to be second guessing stuff for the rest of the night.
Cool party, though?
Sure Theo will follow Ari. When Ari greets Nasrin he offers his name up, "Theo. Nice to meet you." He then looks at his own cup of cocoa and tries to figure out what flavor he is tasting. "This is peppermint. I can vouch that it is good." Smiling at both Ari and Nasrin.
"Be very careful what you say about Zappa, my friend," Wash tells Wesley. "Some people are sacrosanct. Even if they did give their kids weird fucking names." And then his twin shows up and it's like his radar PINGS and Wash turns his head to look at Reggie. "OREGON. COME SAY HI." He does not wave. instead, he stomps his foot and points at the floor next to him.
What the hell is the matter with this family.
"Wait are you serious?" Avery asks back to Wash at that tidbit of information about the family and names being used in Zombieland. "Thats crazy!" A puff of a laugh comes out from her.
To Wesley, "I watch movies! Just because I didn't know some movie that's like 30 years old doesn't mean I don't see any movies. And a movie with Zombies?" Giving him a look, "Come on, that's a must watch."
When Callie makes her slip away, Avery nods her head, then looks towards Ari when Wash points him out over there. "And he is the one that does set design, right?"
Rolling her eyes at the introduction from Bam, "I do pretty ok, I do much better when I don't have to save his ass all the time." Hitching a thumb in Bam's direction.
"Hey, Ari!" Naz greets, giving a wave from her chair as he makes his approach. "Thanks for the invite -- the show was really good, the set pieces obviously were done with care." she compliments, folding her hands in her lap a moment for lack of things to do with them. "Seems like everyone's having a great time back here, a lot of friendly chaos." she offers as a joke, hearing people call out names -- Oregon. California. Arizona. Washington. Her brows knit a moment, before her lips purse as she looks up to Ari.
"Are... you all named after navy ships?" she questions "... ooh and peppermint cocoa does sound amazing. I'll have to find my way over."
Trace wanders his way over to where the kids are working on crafts and decorating ornaments. There's an empty spot, so he crouches down there and asks if he can join in, helping the cast member there. He asks the kids what their favorite ornaments were, what they're making, and passes bits of paper and glue and safety scissors around, eventually ending up making his own as well as he's handed bits and bobs to contribute to the process. He's not really here to work the party, but he seems perfectly happy volunteering, making sure to keep bits of glue and glitter from ending up in his hot cocoa.
"Oh gosh, sorry," Ari says, and he steps in to do the introduction part of... introducing someone to someone else. Right, that's important. "Theo, this is Nasrin. Nasrin, this is Theo. He works at the Lamplight too, just on stage versus backstage like I do." He smiles at them both, and then Nasrin questions his name. Embarrassed, Ari replies, "No, we're... named after the states we were born in. Anyway, hot cocoa?"
He'll lead Theo and Nasrin both over to where they're handing out mugs of hot cocoa. "I guess I'll try the s'mores cocoa this time?" He flashes a thumbs up at Blitzen and then leans down a little to ask him, "How are y'all doing in there?"
A hand comes up in laughing surrender as Wesley promises Wash, "Not gonna say a bad thing about Zappa, promise, aside from some weird taste in baby names." As more and more names are called out, he sips his cocoa and asks bemusedly - looking around the room, "...how many of you are there? Is this a one-family play? Are me and Avery the only people here who aren't named after states?"
Shooting a teasing look to Avery, he swears, "I'll convert you to the gospel of Kevin Smith eventually."
When Theo moves with Ari and Nasrin he spies Trace and uplifts a hand in greeting. "Hey, want another hot chocolate?" Having seen how Trace is working with kids and his cup might get tampered with unintentionally. "Got a flavor in mind?"
He turns to look at Nasrin, "Yeah, I am the act before the firelight-light show. This one." He points at Trace, "Is in charge of all the fun in that." He puts his empty cup somewhere as he decides what his next choice is.
Santa is, of course, the biggest hit of the whole party, kids flocking to his side for pictures and to put in their Christmas wishes with him. But Jack Frost proves to be a surprise fan favorite when he reveals he can do close-up magic, making little tokens that he's collected from around the park disappear from his hands and reappear in people's pockets. Besides, little gifts? Everyone loves little gifts.
Some of the elves are helping with the cookie decorating (or rather... just decorating their own cookies, under the guise of "helping) but at the arts and crafts table, the young woman playing Clara looks up at Trace when he arrives, and she smiles. "Sure, come join! There's plenty to go around." She helps affix some glitter to one ornament for a little girl and after said child runs off to show her mom, Clara winks at Trace. "The ballroom's going to be covered in this stuff by the end of the night."
The music turns into something a bit more upbeat and cheerful, and one of the elves who isn't trying to make their own Blitzen cookie starts teaching some of Bam's choreography to a group of mostly uncoordinated kids, though a couple of them pick it up really quickly.
Oregon has planned for Washington's Washness and holds up his phone. Sideways. There's a white board app on it and the word: "HI!" has been typed there nice and big and bolded. Also, his phone screen is on full brightness unlike some weirdos who try to look at their phones in weird dimness. He'll never understand that quirk. Ever. Full Brightness Only.
With his 'outwitting' moment handled with enough of a smirk on his face, his phone is twirled and pocketed before he contradicts his own anti-social behavior to start mingling along a path towards the general direction of Warners Orbit? Gravitational Pull?
Black Hole?
"Yeah, I am," Wash says with a smile. He flips Reggie off. "Jerk." He shakes his head at Wesley. "No, we just do the behind the scenes stuff. Nevada is somewhere here, she does the lights, and Colorado does props." He shrugs at Wes and Avery. "But the actors aren't family. We're... uh, there's a lot of us. Mom liked having kids."
"We don't have a WESt Virginia yet," notes Bam. He looks indignantly at Avery and shakes his head. "And I'm the one who's always watching YOUR ass."
He glances towards Callie again before looking back to the twins. "Avery here has terrible taste and seems to think that spending more time with me is a good idea."
Suddenly Caliie reappears. She's got a refill of her hot cocoa, and a plate full of cookies. She helpfully holds out the plate toward Wash and Reggie so they can partake. She listens as Wash mentions the things that the Warners do.
"I do sound things." Callie offers up, takes a bite of a cookie, and then holds the plate out. "Please, I took far too many. Someone take some of these cookies before I eat them all."
She doesn't say anything about Mom liking to procreate. That is something she doesn't like to think about, let alone talk about.
She eyes Bam when he mentions spending time with Avery, and how she has terrible taste. He's kidding, of course, and Callie gives her a sympathetic smile.
Trace grins at Clara when she welcomes him over to the kiddie table. And frankly? He seems pretty much at home there, enthusing over what the kids are making and helping them with their projects when asked to. Otherwise, he just fools around with his own ornament, seeming happy just to be out and about doing something fun. "Wouldn't be the first, nor won't be the last, I figure," Trace chuckles to 'Clara' once the little girl runs off.
He nods toward the back areas of the castle and says, "I work upstairs. I get to see the aftermath of these things pretty often." He then turns to watch as the group of kids try to learn some of the choreography, grinning a little.
When Theo approaches he glances down at his near-empty cup and says, "Oh, sure, if you're grabbing more. Thanks! Would you like some... glitter?" He laughs. That's all he has at hand at the moment, even if he suspects the answer to that is a hearty 'no'.
Nasrin, in her scarf with her chair, gives a small, shy wave after a brief deer-in-a-headlights expression settles on her face as she looks up to Theo.
"Hi, Nasrin Flores, I work over in Medical." she introduces herself, taking off one of her fingerless gloves to offer a handshake to Theo. No one likes dirty gloves. The curly-haired young woman gives a slightly off-center smile, her shoulders rising up a moment before she one-handed wheels herself to follow Ari, and she gives a small wave over to Trace as well. "I kind of envy the performers. You must be so exhausted at the end of a night." she offers conversationally, "but it seems like it beats being in an office most of the day... but interacting with everyone..." she trails off, undecided as she gives a soft 'mmn' sound, looking at the coverage of glitter -- and checking her wheels for the stuff a little bit as they mosey on over.
"Your family seems pretty... intense, Ari." she comments with a slight grin. "Weirdly makes me feel right at home... being the quiet one."
There's a laugh that erupts from Theo when Trace offers him glitter. "Naw. I'm good." He will take Trace's cup and do a switch. When he comes back he hands over a caramel hot chocolate and a plate of cookies. "You know in case the kids want some."
He does smile at the ones that are at the table with Trace as he sips on his second cup of chocolate. At this rate he's going to have to find a bathroom soon with all this liquid he's consuming. Even if he's not outright mingling he still looks like he's having a good time. Even checking out the character actors as they come out and make themselves known to the crowd.
Earlier he did interact with Nasrin as he takes her hand to shake. "Crowds overwhelm you too?" He offers her a sympathetic smile, he gets it. Chuckling at her comment about the performers. "That is where I save my energy for my performances but I wanted to come out and support this. Otherwise, I hide out in my room sometimes just to gather up my energy once again."
"Am I in danger of being assimilated? Are you the Borg?" Wes asks Bam amused at the comment, both eyebrows raising a little. A shrug of one shoulder, then, admitting to Wash, "Must be interesting. Can't relate, I was an only child - must've been way, way different." He looks between all the siblings, thoughtful a moment as he warms his belly with another sip of cocoa.
"I said I saw Clerks!" Avery defends herself to Wes and starts to laugh, "... It's just been a while." A long while. She had no doubt that Wes would take her further into the dark side of Kevin Smith, "And I said I'd watch Dogma." Second guessing yourself, "You said it was Dogma, right?"
Looking over to see Oregon making his way over, "Your other face and better half?" she says to Wash. Looking back at Bam and grins "Just because you watch it, doesn't mean you save it." remarking just before Callie comes back with a plate full of cookies. "OoooOoo Thanks," Snagging one off the plate to nibble on.
"He's partly right," Avery says in regards to what Bam had said and laughs. Which part, she doesn't clarify.
Trace laughs at Theo's quick decline of his offer of glitter. When the cocoa comes back and is accompanied by a plate of cookies, he grins and says, "Of course. For the kids," even as he takes one off the top and puts it in his mouth, holding it with his teeth as he sets the plate down off to one side where it is less likely to get be-glittered. Then he takes a bite and removes it, saying "Thanks, much appreciated" once he is no longer chewing.
There's a wink that comes from Theo when he hears Trace. "Sure anytime." He lingers by the table as he walks around to see what ornaments are being made. Turning his attention back to Trace, "What did you decide to make." Admiring the handiwork of a little girl who made a snow man that any parent would love and that one gets a thumbs up and smile from him when he's not drinking his hot chocolate. Stopping where Trace put the cookies down and he snags one for himself.
"Well, I tend to get lost in crowds. And people always try to move my chair for their convenience when I don't have the bakes locked." Naz replies to Theo, drawing back with a cookie and cocoa balanced precariously in one hand to watch the crafting going on. Definitely reminded her of making ornaments with her family -- except mildly less chaotic.
Ari has ended up in a very clandestine conversation with Blitzen's, uh... caboose. Mostly translated through Blitzen's head, admittedly. But he smiles at Nasrin as they queue up for hot chocolate, which is how he ends up with a new mug of it, tilting his head towards the grouping of Warners and others who have all assembled in the general area of the arts and crafts table.
And why not? He decides to join in, sitting adjacent to Trace, hot cocoa in hand.
"Well," Wash says, taking a cooking from Callie and shrugging at Wesley. "Callie used to walk us on harnesses," he says, because he loves telling this one. "I have pictures." He pulls his phone out and does a complicated swiping combination and it just straight up pulls a picture of a teen California with two twins --clearly Wash and Reggie-- on child harnesses at a park, and a darker-skinned little girl on a front-hanging baby pack. Definitely Neve.
"I had to take a picture in case the physical one was lost to time," he explains, as he shows Avery and Wesley. "See, that's me, that's Reggie, and that's Neve. There's video too, but I don't have it on my phone."
Trace offers a smile and a "Hello," to Nasrin as well once she's nearby, making sure there's room for everyone when Ari too takes up a seat at the crafting area. With cocoa in one hand and a cookie between his teeth, he uses his free hand to add a bit of a puff to the top of the santa hat that he has affixed to his elf ornament. It has little pointed ears that he's fashioned and the eyes are a bit googly, but it seems like a jolly cherubic thing.
"An elf," he does finally say to Theo when he gets a free hand to hold the cookie in all his multi-tasking. "Going to make one?" he asks.
"It was, yes," Wesley confirms for Avery, shaking his head in amusement, "God, not even Mallrats... can you believe it?" As if, somehow, Wash and/or Bam would be equally astonished at Avery's lack of experience with Kevin Smith movies. A lean forward, and he looks at the picture on the phone - laughing as he leans back, "Oh, man. That's. Wow."
Callie groans and then she clings on to the new topic. Kevin Smith movies. "I loved Mallrats. It's so dirty but hilarious."
She's ignoring her brother. She's ignoring the pictures.
Theo finally finds a seat at the craft table and he is looking on when Trace shows what he is doing. "Sure, I can do that. I like it." He laughs to himself when he spies a reindeer ornament. "I think I'm going to make Rudolph." Pulling whatever material he needs to put this together as he puts his cup down so he can finish his own cookie before he gets to work.
"I'll take partly right over mostly wrong," quips Bam, before looking to Wes. "Gotta bootleg it these days. It's stuck in Weinstein hell." He pauses. "Well, a different Weinstein hell."
He looks to Avery. "Want me to go grab you a drink?"
Slowly, the music fades away, allowing the murmur of the crowd to once again become the reigning sound within the ballroom.
Both Santa and Mrs. Claus take the stage, and it's not long before the room has quieted down again. Mrs. Claus is holding a miniature red pouch that looks just like Santa's present bag from the play. "Thank you all again for spending the evening with us," Santa announces, at the mic. "I have a gift for each and every one of you when you leave tonight, one that I hope make you feel merry and bright," he says with a wink. "But I also have some extra presents from my workshop for some lucky guests!"
The giveaway is definitely rigged, because it's mostly the kids who get the gifts. Stuffed Blitzens or Monty Evergreen action figures, beautifully drawn picturebooks that tell the play's story, and many other assorted toys and treats from the park's various shops. But a few adult names do get called out:
"Callie Warner!"
"Nasrin Flores!"
and
"Wesley King!"
-- who each get a Yarble the Yeti stuffed animal. Hooray for them! Everyone else gets a goodie bag filled with candies, a coloring book, and a very collectible The Midnight Wish souvenir coin. The children with their parents slowly begin to exit the ballroom as bedtimes draw near. The cast and crew, however, don't seem quite ready to stop partying just yet.
"There's more movies? I thought Clerks and Dogma was it..." How little Avery knew about the Kevin Smith movie world.
While Callie wants to ignore the photo, Avery is leaning with interest to get a look at the photo of the babies, "Awww, how cute! Two on one leash? That had to be hard to control."
Taking another bite of her cookie, she covers her mouth and nods her head to Bam, "Sure. Something cold? Please?" The opposite of just about every tray of hot cocoa that was being walked around. Turning to look around at the food table that had been set up, maybe looking to see if she sees anything that might be cold drink-wise.
Santa takes her attention at his announcement, quieting for a moment while the announcement of the winners of the giveaway. "Wooo!" she calls out, then places her cookie between her lips so that she can applaud for the winners.
"There's at least three Clerks movies," Wash tells Avery with a slow shake of his head. "My favorite Kevin Smith movie is Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, though Dogma is really, really good."
As the gifts start being announced for the giveaway, Wash puts his fingers to his lips and lets out a few sharp, celebratory whistles. He pops another cookie in his mouth before Callie has to leave to go get her gift.
As everyone starts chiming in about Kevin Smith, Wesley spreads his hands to either side and gives Avery a SEE? look. Vindication!
Then he hears his name, and his head jerks up and over towards the jolly man in the red and white suit, and he takes a moment to digest what's happening. "Oh, shit, I won something," he observes, flashing the gathered a grin, "Be right back--"
Cocoa in hand, he slips off to fetch his prize! Whatever it is. He wasn't paying enough attention.
Nasrin had been biting the head off a cookie when her name was announced. Her dark eyes go wide, that deer-in-the-headlights expression landing on her again and she sets her cocoa and cookie to the side (away from the glitter!), and wheels herself up to collect her prize, looking all kinds of nervous as she makes her approach to Santa and Mrs. Claus, slightly spooked by Wash's sharp whistles.
"ohmigod this is so embarrassing." she mutters to herself with the other adult winners.
Theo had been bending down to start embellishing his reindeer when he sees Santa and Mrs. Clause make their announcements. When the name of the winners are called out he puts his hands together to clap for the winners. "Woo hoo!" Grinning at Nasrin as if to give her encouragement to get up there and receive her prize.
Somehow, Bam was able to track down a cup of lemonade, which he brings back towards Avery and the rest of the fam. "See, that's where Wash and I differ. I acknowledge that Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is his funniest, and Mallrats is actually number two although it tends to get shit on a lot, but Dogma is just an utterly spectacular film that dives into philosophy and moral objectivism instead of dancing around with dick jokes." He pauses. "And the one dick joke in Dogma is from one of the greatest actors of the last generation, so it even works out."
As the winners are named, Bam adds his name to those celebrating. He grins towards Callie, and then looks towards Wash. "Glad she won one. I'm already a big winner this week." He hands the cup of lemonade to Avery, and then looks back to Wash.
"So, do you have a copy of Dogma around? Because I think the best way to settle it is just to watch 'em both. Which ain't a bad way to spend an evening."
When the prizes are announced, Trace applauds the winners, grinning over at Nasrin. "Come on.. Yarble! Who doesn't love Yarble?" Then Theo gets a nod and says, "Rudolph is a good choice. Need a nose?" He reaches over and offers up a gumdrop looking red nose to Theo, presumably for his ornament.
"Dogma has too much Affleck and Damon," Wash tells Bam with a shrug. No apologies. "I've got all the Kevin Smith films on DVD, even Dogma. Dad gave it to me when I wouldn't stop replaying the Golgotha scene and cracking up when I was like, six?" That seems about right age for cackling at one giant poop joke.
Callie goes to collect her prize and she holds them close to her so her brothers will not snag them and keep them. They're those kind of boys. She keeps them under her arm as she continues to snack on cookies.
She shifts her gaze from Bam to Wash, listening and not commenting. Not until the cookies have run dry.
She would like to watch Dogma though.
The Yarbles get handed out to Nasrin, Wesley, and Callie by one of the Christmas Elf Chorus members, who congratulates each winner and then tries to convince them not to make any promises on Christmas Eve, if only to thwart another wish disaster. They are clearly far too into their character, especially with the crowd beginning to thin out.
Some of the crew begin to depart too, and so does Blitzen who must be dying to get out of that puppet gear, but the hub of the arts and crafts table remains a gathering spot for the time being. Even the elves who were decorating cookies have migrated over to join in, as if they're all not quite ready for opening day to be over yet.
Now there are only a few dozen more performances to go before the season is over. Whew.
"Sure!" Theo says with some enthusiasm. He puts his hand out for the gumdrop Trace gives and palms it. "Thanks , man." Sincere tone heard as he looks down at his project. When Nasrin comes back to the table, if she does he asks her, "So what are you going to do with your prize?"
Avery looks from one to the other and then sighs, the look on Wes's face so smug too. Shaking her head, "I accept defeat. I'm weird that I haven't watched them and didn't even know there was more than Clerks." She really was the minority in this group that seems to know all about this Kevin Smith series of movies. Knowing so much as to debate which one is greater and why.
Taking the lemonade that Bam found for her, the cookie was removed from her mouth long enough so that she could take a drink from the cup. "Thank you," smiling once her drink was taken.
As Callie makes her way back, Avery looks to see what the gift was "Aww the Yeti is so cute!"
Nasrin returns to the table, looking a little green around the gills (definitely not a performer), and the Yeti plushie sitting on her lap now as she puts the brakes on her chair.
"Ah... I don't know. Feels weird to win something at an event meant for kids --" she trails off slightly, her cheeks and ears getting darker. "But I feel if I give it away my sister and brother would just know." she pauses "I could just put him up on the shelf with the other plushies I own."
In contrast, Wesley seems delighted to have a yeti plush. "I can troll Yarble's actor so hard with this," he's grinning as he wanders back over to the group he'd left behind, "Seems like everything's coming up Wes tonight."
So long as no cursed wishes get made.
"Sure, but it also has way more Alan Rickman, and I mean way more, than Strikes Back." Bam shrugs back at Wash. "Of course, that's like arguing between Godfather and Godfather Part II, they are both really enjoyable films." He pauses. "Not saying Kevin Smith is Coppola or anything, but...they're just closer to each other than they are the others in the series."
He looks to Wash again. "Did you hear they're talking about a fourth one? Godfather, that is. Crazytown is what it is."
He smiles back at Avery once she takes the cup of lemonade. "Of course." He looks over at Callie's yeti, and nods in agreement. "He is adorable. You can call him that, the Adorable Snowman, instead of the Indominatable Snowman."
As the games and prizes have been given out, he gives a sigh and looks to the rest of the family. "Are we going to gather for a post-show nightcap/chill out back at the Watertower, or go our own separate ways?"
"Kevin Smith has a better track record within his genre for good movies than Coppola does, though," Wash points out. "Megalopolis." Wash shudders. "A fourth Godfather is a dumb as fuck idea," he says, snorting. He reaches out and pokes at Callie's stuffed animal's nose, and smiles. "Congrats, TeenSoap."
He shakes his head and shrugs at Bam's question. "I dunno. I haven't seen Lora or Neve, I think they were too tired." He looks around again, and then frowns. "Dammit. Reggie escaped." Frown! TwinFrown!
"Ya'll figure it out and let me know. I didn't get much sleep last night. Need to go nap." Callie remarks, making her way to the exit. "Ya'll stay sweet and salty." She says to others, waving vaguely as she nears the exit.
The Godfather is mentioned and Avery beams, "I love those movies." In agreement with Wash, "I don't think there needs to be a fourth one. But I'm a sucker for Mafia movies and I'll watch it anyway."
Sipping more of the lemonade, her eyes dart around the room noticing how people were slipping away now the prizes had been announced. Looked like that was the final thing they were all waiting for before taking off for the night. Discussion of the next stop of the night transpiring around her.
"Thanks for inviting me," Avery tells Bam, "It was fun. Glad I got to see the play and come hang out." Thumbing towards the food, "I might go grab some food and take it with me."
"Sounds like a good deal." Theo tells Nasrin. "Can never have too many plushies." Looking up and at her once he sticks that red nose on the reindeer ornament and viola it is now Rudolph. "I think I'm gonna get going. It was nice to meet Nasrin. See you around but hopefully not for anything medical any time soon." He laughs. A glance to Trace, "I'll see you at the Amphitheater." That could be said the same for Ari if he's around since he knows the two because of that. He holds his ornament in one hand to make sure whatever needs drying, drys. Throwing his cup away on his way out. Whistling a tune. Likely one of the songs from The Midnight Wish.
Callie splitting, Reggie pulling his Houdini, and Ari...Bam looks over towards Wash and shrugs. "Guess we're winding down," states the obvious. He looks back to Avery and nods. "Yeah, of course. I told you, my family knows what it's doing."
He looks back to Wash. "I think custodial's got clean-up down pat, so unless you want to hang out to do some notes, you're off the hook. You want to hang for a bit, or go and get some rest?" He nods towards Avery. "I'm going to grab some food too, then Avery and I'll probably meander somewhere if not."
"Coppola used to be one of the greats, but he's lost touch with what people want - he'd crash a fourth and it'd burn," is Wesley's opinion on that, shaking his head in agreement with most of the others, "I'd definitely watch it anyway, though. Either it'd surprise me, or it'd be like watching a car accident -- either way, worth catching."
A glance to Avery and Bam, a tip of his chin up, and he waggles his yeti at them, "Well, guess I'll grab a snack and get going too. Good meeting your, uh, incredibly large group of siblings."
